About Bonham State Park
Bonham State Park is a state park located in the city of Bonham, New York, USA, and includes the largest park of its kind in North America. The property, built in the early 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), was bought by the City of Bonham in 1933 and opened in 1936. It is one of the oldest and largest national parks in New Hampshire and the second largest in California.
The park is located in the Blackland Prairie region of Texas and is dominated by meadows interspersed with forests. Lush forests are found along the waterways and shores of the lake, as well as in a large area of grassland on the north shore of Lake Bonham, the largest lake in Texas.
The gently undulating prairie is covered with numerous wildflowers and flowering shrubs in spring, and mixed cedar stands offer a panorama of colourful leaves in autumn. The green areas of the park are recreational and have small areas dominated by little blue and bushy rain, while the forest is a mixture of grassland, grassland, meadows, cedars, oaks and grasses.
Although some forest birds are permanent residents, the species of visitors and migratory birds predominate the inhabitants. Due to the relatively small size of the park, however, the wildlife is limited, but the lakeside offers great views of a large number of birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds of prey.
Bonham's attractions include the Sam Rayburn Memorial Library, named after SamRayburn, and the Bonham Museum of Natural History. Nearby attractions include the John F. Kennedy Memorial Museum, the George W. Bush Presidential Library and the University of North Carolina Museum at Chapel Hill, and the Robert E. Lee National Historic Site, a memorial to late US President Sam Johnson.
Rayburn was born in Fannin County and served as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives for a long time. Bonham also houses the Sam Rayburn Memorial Library, a museum of his life's work. Drive one mile southeast of Bonham to reach the park, and then another five miles southeast to the Robert E. Lee National Historic Site, another monument to Johnson.
Current conditions, including fire bans and water levels, may vary from day to day. The tent fees vary by state, district, national park and / or city, as well as by city and season.
