At the top of the list of activities at Steinaker is fishing for rainbow trout and white perch - all year round.

Nearby, the motorway vehicles bark, and in the park parking lot there are a number of picnic tables, picnic benches, a picnic table and a picnic area.

Steinaker sees an unusual reservoir, and the Steinaker State Park Visitor Center with picnic tables and picnic benches is available in the park.

Steinaker Lake is fed by Ashley Creek, a canal that runs through the center of the park and into Ashley Valley, the state's main source of irrigation. Steinaker Lake is the first facility built as part of the huge Central Utah Project, which stores wastewater from Ashley Creek to provide the Ashley Valley with irrigation water.

Fossilized relics once found in ancient seas are found here, and the area is named after Gen. William H. Ashley, who was a member of the U.S. Army's 2nd Infantry Division, the Utah Army Corps of Engineers. Steinaker State Park is located in a region known to geologists, historians and artifact collectors. Steinaker to explore the historic Ashley Valley site, one of Utah's oldest and most important archaeological sites.

In 1961 the first sod was broken for the Steinaker Damm, in 1964 the park was opened to the public.

At the time of the ceremony, William H. Ashley, an engineer in the US Army, was 81 years old and a member of one of the pioneering cattle breeding families in Utah. Several hundred people attended the ceremony, many of whom named the lake and park after him.

The park is located about seven miles north of Vernal, follow the signs and take Highway 191 north to Vernals and follow it to the park entrance.
