About Ascutney State Park

This 1500 hectare wing is the original site where the development of Ascutney State Park began in 1935. In 1935, the state of Vermont purchased a 560-acre plot of land from Weston Heights, Inc. with public funds. In 1938, another 300 hectares were bought from the Bicknell estate and in 1939 another 300 hectares.

The subsequent purchase of land increased the total area to 2000 hectares, and the masonry was made entirely of Ascutney granite. The original park, which formed the summit road and campsites 1 - 18, was completed in 1939, when the CCC camp was moved to Okemo.

The Rangers' quarterback entrance is at 550 feet, with another 344 feet leading to the summit.

From this point you have a great view of the summit, the road and the hiking trails. The detached cottages on the east side of the trail, at the foot of a steep hill, have moved and offer excellent views in all directions.

This is also the starting point for hang gliders and is a great place for views, and it is also a good place for a picnic. The park has a number of wooded camping and trailer sites and 10 loops of lean-to-lean pitches.

At the foot of the summit is a sanitary landfill and mobile home connection, which are partly located on the Hochgipfelstraße. This round has a campsite, picnic area and a number of lean pitches for tents and trailers. There is also a sanitary landfill and a campsite on a steep hill, located about 800 m from the entrance to the park.
