About Giffords Woods State Forest Park
Gifford Woods State Park was established in 1931, and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) established picnic areas and ranger quarters in 1933 and 1934. In 1939 the CCCC set up a campground and in 1959 - 60 the forest park administration built a new campground.
The Appalachian Trail runs through the park and ends at the Long Trail, which is about 1.2 km from the campsite. The park is crossed by many transients and is crossed by the Appalachians and many other hiking trails, such as the New York State Trail.
At Deer Leap Mountain you have a waterfall where Kent Brook joins Kent Pond and the Thundering Brook Trail. During the fall holiday season, the park is one of the best places in New York to hike and camp in the state.
