About Allis State Park
Allis State Park is named after Wallace Allis, who wanted to live on the top of Bear Mountain, in the middle of the state, south of Burlington, Vermont. The picnic area has a fire tower with a great view of central Vermont, and it is located on the peaks of Bear Mountain.
On a clear day, the peaks of Killington, Pico and Ascutney can be seen from the south. North and South Pond are located together about one mile east of the park, Sunset Lake is located on the north side of Bear Mountain, about two miles west of Allis State Park. Baker Pond is also about a mile east, south of Baker Lake. The campground, picnic area and ranger's residence were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1932 and 1933.
