About Holiday Lake State Park
Mullet, cappie and blue cabbage fishing is a popular activity in the 150-hectare marine park, but the nearby Department of Wildlife and Inland Fisheries has delayed harvesting. The river allows anglers to catch brook and rainbow trout, and fishing for the giant mullet, cape and blue herb is another popular activity. Holiday Lake State Park, a 1.5 kilometer long lake in the northern part of Chiang Mai National Park, has been a haven for outdoor enthusiasts for over 30 years.
Swimming is a popular summer activity in the park, while there is also a swimming pool, picnic area and water park with picnic areas. The park also features a guarded beach, where the Critter Hole playground is popular with young visitors. Parking is available at seasonal concession stands, and there is also parking for cars, bicycles, motorcycles and other vehicles, as well as a multi-storey car park.
The area, which includes the lake and the surrounding state forest, was cleared for farmland in the 19th century. In the 1930s, the federal government, under the Resettlement Administration, began buying up farms to restore the land to its former productive hardwood state. Construction of the dam began at Fish Pond Creek, which was then moved to Holliday Creek, where a lake could be created. The park is one of only two state parks in New Hampshire with a dam, and it is the only one in North America with such a large dam.
Traces of family cemeteries in the area are still buried by the descendants of the original Holliday Lake State Park settlers, such as the family of William and Mary Hickey.
After the completion of Holliday Lake in 1938, the administration of the new recreation area was taken over by the Commonwealth of Virginia. In 1972 the area became a national park with the addition of campsites and in 1973 a national park.
During the summer season, the beach is equipped with a swimming pool, picnic tables, a picnic area and a water park. Outside the park you can camp, fish, swim or provide beach equipment, as well as kayak, paddle board, canoe, boat, horseback riding, kayaking, hiking, fishing, boating, swimming, camping and much more.
Under certain circumstances, guests will be refunded for swimming, but not for rowing in the boat or other activities.
The park offers picnics on the lake's beach and fishing for fish with valid Virginia fishing licenses on Saturday and Sunday, July 4 and 5, from noon to 5 p.m.
Picnic facilities include tables, drinking water, barbecues and toilets, as well as picnic tables and chairs on the beach and on the picnic areas on the beach.
Picnic huts are available on the beach and on the picnic areas on both sides of the park, as well as on a picnic area near the parking lot. Two apartments are for rent and the rental price does not include parking or bathing fees. For more information about parking fees and fees at Holiday Lake State Park, please click here.

It is a 4.7 kilometre trail from the park's main entrance to the lake, but it connects to the Lakeview Trail at a campground about the same time as the South Lake Trail.
The Sunfish Aquatic Trail is a self-guided water adventure that requires a boat and a free walking brochure. While paddling or peddling to the shore of the lake, brochures with numbered stops inform about the lakes and their surroundings.
