Cumberland State Forest

About Cumberland State Forest

It is located in the eastern part of the state and borders New Hampshire, New York, Vermont and New Jersey to the west. There are a number of self-guided trails and other trails that are open, as well as a path for the Cumbria State Forest Trail.

Motorised vehicles are prohibited in the state forest, and every 150 - 200 metres the path is covered with blue flames on the trees.

The forest also has several guarded paths and forest roads that can be used for hiking, biking, mountain biking and other outdoor activities such as camping. The trail is at the end of the forest, just outside the entrance to the state forest in the north - west of Cumbria.

This 16 mile loop follows the Willis River Forest, which is bordered by the Cumbria River, the Northumberland River and the Isle of Wight River. During your journey through the forest you will observe different and unique environments. Non-motorized bicycles are allowed on the way from the entrance to the state forest at the northwest entrance of the park.

White-tailed deer, white-legged deer and other wildlife are well-managed natural resources in the Cumbria State Forest. Loblolly Pine stocks and the harvested areas of the Northumberland River and the Isle of Wight River are attracted to many different animal species.
