About Mystery Bay State Park

The 10 hectare Marine Park has a total area of about 2,500 hectares and a maximum depth of 1.5 meters. The park has an average annual population of about 1,200 people and is accessible by boat from the main entrance on the north bank of the Bay of Biscay, about 20 km south of San Francisco.

The park is of primary interest to boaters, as it is accessible by car or boat and is open all year round - for daily use only.

The name Mystery Bay is derived from the smuggling activities on the island during the Prohibition. In the remote waters of Northwest Washington, transporting alcohol from Canada was a profitable and somewhat honorable occupation.

The regular disappearances of smugglers have been described as "mysterious" by the coastguard. Kilisut on the Indian island of Marrowstone was a port used by smugglers to evade coastguard ships. Tugboats hid in the waters off the island for months, sometimes weeks or months.

The park has no campsites and had limited facilities, but there is a general store about a kilometer from the park in Nordland.

The park offers a single-lane launch pad that gently descends to the beach north of the swimming chamber. Boats that are launched or overturned over trailers can be purchased in the park, and staff are available. Annual tickets can also be purchased at the park for $10 per year or $15 per month if you are a member of a nonprofit organization.

Daily and annual permits are available and a mooring fee is charged for moorings, buoys and buoys.

The park also offers boat facilities such as a boathouse, boat launch and ramp, as well as a swimming chamber. It features an outdoor swimming pool, picnic area, picnic tables and picnic benches. The first-come, first-come, first-served menu is served daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday and noon to 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.

Crabs are best found on land, but oyster shells can be found at low tide on the beach, and crabs and oyster shells at high tide. Drinking water is available in the park, in the parking lot and in a water treatment plant. The water contains high sodium, so people with sodium intolerance should not drink water with high salt content or water with high sodium content.

The hotel is located at the intersection of SR-116 and Oak Bay Road, just south of the park entrance.

From your car in Hadlock, cross the bridge, drive one kilometer south on OakBay Road and continue for 8 miles. Turn left onto SR 116 and drive approximately 6 miles, crossing the headland to Marrowstone Island. After crossing the park, turn left and drive about 6.5 km to the hotel and car park.

Follow the signs and take the ferry from Kingston to Bainbridge Ferry or by car from Seattle or Edmonds to the ferry Kingston - Bain Bridge.

Drive 10 miles up The Four Way Road stops at Port Hadlock and turns right onto Chimacum Center Road. Turn left onto Four Way Road, turn left at Four Way Stop and drive 10-plus miles until you stop at Port Hadlock, then right again onto the road.

Drive approximately 8 miles, turn left on SR 116, drive approximately 1.5 miles, then turn right on Chimacum Center Road and drive approximately 8 miles. Turn left into the park, right onto the street, and then right back onto Four Way Road before turning left onto State Route 116 for approximately one mile.

Mystery Bay is located on a narrow channel that makes an "S" curve at the entrance, and deviation from the center of the channel can lead to grounding. Access to the boat is via the canal port of Kilisut, but there is no access for boats through the canals or the port of Kil isut.
