About Denali National Park and Preserve
Denali National Park and Preserve is one of the largest national parks in the United States and the second largest in North America. It also covers more than 6 million hectares of Denali, includes the Alaska range and is home to the world's largest mountain range, the North Pole.
The park was founded on February 26, 1917 as Mount McKinley National Park and reestablished as a national park on January 1, 1924. In 1980 the original park was declared a wilderness area and included in the Denali National Park and Nature Reserve.
In 1976 it was declared an International Biosphere Reserve and is still a laboratory for scientific research. Today, the park offers a wide range of activities for visitors, including game watching, mountaineering and backpacking.
