With over two million acres, the Inyo National Forest is home to many natural wonders, including a national park, seven congressional wilderness areas covering more than 650,000 acres, and the largest wilderness area in the United States. With challenging hiking trails and mountain peaks, it offers access to some of the most scenic and scenic views of the California Sierra Nevada.

Leisure activities include hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and snowboarding. Over 100 km of trails prepare for winter sports, which consists of various purposes, from snowmobiling, skiing and hiking. Two ski resorts offer alpine skiing or snowboarding, about 45 km of cross-country skiing trails and about 30 km for snowshoeing.

The Inyo National Forest is currently involved in the management of seven wilderness areas. The Hoover Wilderness was founded in 1931 as a primitive area and is the largest wilderness area of its kind in California with more than 1,000 hectares.

Visitors can enjoy scenic views of the Sierra Nevada, the Great Smoky Mountains and the Inyo National Forest, as well as a variety of wildlife.

The Wilderness Minarets were established in 1964 under the Wilderness Act and changed their name to honor the famous photographer and environmentalist Ansel Adams. It covers 231,066 hectares of wilderness, including much of the John Muir Trail, stretching from Highway 120 in the north to Lake Thomas Edison in the south. Devils Postpile National Monument is located on the western edge of the Inyo National Forest, north of Lake Tahoe.

With more than 1.5 million visitors a year, it is one of the nation's most visited wildernesses, according to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The John Muir Wilderness covers 1.2 million acres of wilderness in the Inyo National Forest, including many in Lake Tahoe National Park and the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

John Muir was also established under the Wilderness Act of 1964 and expanded by the California Wilderness Act of 1984, which now totals 581,143 hectares. Named after the colorful fish of the state of California, the Golden Trout, which stretches from the JohnMuir Wilderness to the south and west, covers 306,000 acres and is a popular fishing spot that attracts more than 1.5 million visitors annually, according to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The wilderness of the southern Sierra covers nearly 1 million acres between Lake Tahoe National Park and the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Declared a wilderness site by the United States Congress in 1978, it has been a popular fishing spot for decades and attracts visitors from as far away as New York City.

The Boundary Peak Wilderness is located entirely in Nevada and is part of the northern Nevada wilderness of US land management. Named after the highest point in all of Nevada, Boundaries Peak attracts climbers and hikers from as far afield as New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The elevation difference ranges from 6,100 feet at Kennedy Meadows to 12,123 feet at Olancha Peak, and visitors will find more than 2,000 feet of elevation difference in the 62,700-acre wilderness.

The isolated Inyo Mountains are located in the middle of a mountain range surrounded by the Sierra Nevada, the Great Basin and the Mojave Desert. From here, you can see many dramatic desert areas, including the InYo and White Mountains.

Hikers who want to go higher - heights for solitude and rich historical values - will find adventure and unlimited recreation here. This wilderness, which bears its name, covers an area of more than 3,500 square kilometers and is covered by the highest mountain range in the USA and one of the largest national parks in California.

There are several trout species in this area, which often displace other species such as white trout and brown trout and their relatives. Fishing remains an increasingly popular activity, although trout are not the only fish species available for fishing in the Inyo National Forest.

Fishing in the wilderness is subject to certain restrictions to replenish the indigenous population, but not to the extent that other parts of the national forest do.
