About Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park

Berlin - The Ichthyosaur State Park is located on the outskirts of Berlin, Germany, south of the city of Hamburg, in the state of Bavaria. The park is open all year round and offers a wide range of exciting leisure activities, but extreme winter weather can make travel impossible. The park is located north of Germany's second largest city Berlin and east of Munich, and is just a short drive from many popular tourist attractions.

The National Park Berlin - Ichthyosaur covers 1,153 hectares, and depending on weather and road conditions, a winter visit is possible. Late spring and early autumn are often the best times of the year. The wooded slopes provide shade and the breeze helps to soften the summer temperatures, which rarely exceed 32 degrees Celsius.

The slopes of the park are covered with large sagebrush and Nevada flowers, while the upper layer is dominated by Pinyon Pine and Utah juniper. The altitude ranges from 6,800 feet to a peak of 7,000 feet, with an altitude of 5,500 to 8,600 feet. Some of its inhabitants are the black, white and red-shank-rabbits.

The Ichthyosaur State Park was founded to protect and exhibit the largest known ichthyosaur fossil in the United States. The park has also preserved some of the most important dinosaur fossils of the US Geological Society (USGS) since the turn of the 20th century.

The fossil area of the ichthyosaur is a registered natural monument and the historic town has been entered in the National Register of Historical Places. This national designation speaks to the unique value of the resources extracted here.

The first mining activity in the region was in May 1863, when a small group of gold miners discovered silver in Union Canyon and founded the small Union Mining Deposit. The first report on the Berliner Schlucht dates back to 1869, but the Berliner Grube was not founded until 1896. In 1896 the Union mining area was founded, which included the city of Berlin and the city of Union as well as several other towns and villages.

The city of Berlin experienced its heyday in 1908, which went into decline in 1911, but not before the mining demands that surrounded it. The old buildings of the Berliner Schlucht and the Union mine were used by Berlin miners.

During the heyday of Berlin, Berlin and its suburbs supported between 200 and 250 people, including miners and their families, as well as workers in the mining industry. The buildings are begged by the Berliner Schlucht, the Union-Bergwerk and the city of Berlin itself.

Many of the buildings are still intact, but residents have been buried in the cemeteries around the city, and some of them are still in use.

At a time when gold was priced at $20 apiece, the total production from the three-mile tunnel was estimated at $849,000. The Berlin mine was operated in eight-level shafts, with a total cost of production at the end of the mining period of approximately $1.5 million.

The Berlin mill processed ore by crushers, stamps, mergers and concentration tables. Today, Berlin is a true ghost town that will be preserved for present and future generations. Visitors are invited to stroll through the old city grounds, peek out the windows, read the numerous descriptions and imagine life in a colorful time in Nevada in the past.

The Diana Mine, also known as the Walter Bowler Tunnel, started operations in Berlin at the same time as the boom. The fourth floor of the Berlin mine is connected to the surface by a lateral tunnel of 200 feet.

The Diana mine was abandoned at the end of this activity and remained largely abandoned. It is literally dressed up and a walk through the historical past, and it is one of the most interesting attractions in Berlin - the Ichthyosaur State Park.

When entering the mine, visitors follow the original tracks laid for the ore wagons, but it seems that the miners left the mine yesterday and would return tomorrow. One of the first things that strikes you is the old iron ore wagon with its original track and the remains of an old mining wagon.

Many other historical mining tools are shown and interpreted to visitors, and among other things, there is evidence that the quartz veins actually carry gold, as well as a quartz vein that actually carries gold. Tours of this size are limited, so please ask for availability and reservations.

In the well there are campsites and sanitary facilities - divided units in the park, with toilets, showers and showers for campers nearby.

There is no formal group use area, but groups can use the picnic area for overnight or day stays prior to reservation. If you are planning a group trip, please contact the park to provide an address and telephone number.
