About Mt San Jacinto State Park

The ride provides a great opportunity to explore and enjoy the scenic highland scenery of Mount San Jacinto State Park. There is a deeply weathered peak, a beautiful mountain range and spectacular views of the San Juan Mountains.

Most of the park is a designated wilderness area popular with hikers and backpackers. The park offers a wide range of hiking trails and trails for all ages and abilities, as well as a large number of picnic spots.

A streetcar that starts in Chino Canyon near Palm Springs takes passengers to the base station at 1,490 meters (1,490 feet). At this point you can also enter a network of hiking trails and find self-guided nature trails, such as the Desert View Trail, which offers views of the highlands, including several peaks above 10,000 feet, as well as mountain views. The mountain station has a picnic area with picnic tables, picnic benches and a large picnic table.

The tram will be in operation from 9 am to 5 pm on weekends, 10 am to 4 pm on weekdays and 7 pm to 10 pm at night.

The San Jacinto Mountains are a magical place that attracts hikers year after year, and the Pacific Crest Trail is the jewel in America's scenic crown, stretching 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada through three western states. The trail leads through some of the most scenic areas in the USA, from San Diego to San Francisco.

The Palm Springs cable car makes it easy for hikers to reach the Mount San Jacinto State Wilderness.

The modern bogie railway, which starts in Chino Canyon in the Palm Desert, takes passengers through the mountains and down to the valley station at the end of the trail. Day - Hikers accustomed to secluded trails may find this a bit bizarre, but when they enter the valley station they will find enthusiastic tourists buying souvenirs. Hikers will enjoy the contrast that the mountain range offers with the Sahara, which stretches across the Pacific Crest Trail and the desert landscape in front of them.

When you arrive at the top of the station, your ears pop and the tram leaves terra firma quickly. You will have to climb a steep cliff that only bighorn sheep can climb and you will enjoy spectacular views of Mount San Jacinto State Park.

On both sides of the summit, from north to south, the wilderness is part of the San Bernardino National Forest and the entire area is bounded by the San Jacinto Mountains National Wildlife Refuge, a wilderness area largely managed by a national park. This region, which includes SanJacinto Peak, is an important wildlife management area in the New Mexico State Park System and National Forest. The wildlife in the Los Angeles County National Park System manages the wildlife of the San Jacinta Mountains.

The view from the top is absolutely magnificent, as is the view of the San Jacinta Valley, the valley below and the mountains to the east and west. The meadows and high mountain scenery are easily felt on an easy hike from Round Valley and provide a natural backdrop for the picturesque views of the mountains and valleys of New Mexico.

Take Interstate 10, turn right and travel three miles to Tramway Road and follow the road to its end at the bottom station.

If you walk from the Tramway Road Station to Mount San Jacinto State Park, you can walk about two miles to its end.

There are wildflowers that add a seasonal splash of colour, and one day - here the permission to use applies. Continue west on the road following the sign to Round Valley and follow this until Mount San Jacinto State Park. The path runs parallel and then leads through pine forests, but here no daily use permits are requested, only a parking permit.

This alternative route only extends the day trip by 0.25 miles and allows for a loop, but there is a 1.5 km hike from Round Valley that takes you through the valley past the intersection of the path that leads to Willow Creek. Another alternative to returning on the same route is to follow the steps back to an intersection with the Willow Creek Trail and walk one kilometer to a signposted path. The valley is just a short walk from the hiking trail at the end of Round Creek Trail.

At this point you can also join the network of hiking trails and find self-guided nature trails such as the Desert View Trail, which offers views of the highlands, including several peaks above 10,000 feet.

At the base station at 1,643 feet, passengers are picked up by a streetcar that leaves from Chino Canyon in Palm Springs. The mountain station has a picnic area, a café and a parking lot with parking for cars and bicycles.

The tram will be in operation from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

From San Diego, drive to the park on Highway 243 North, take Interstate 10 East to Highway 243 South Park and take Interstate 15 North to 215 North. From San Francisco, take the San Bernardino County Courthouse exit and enter the park via the Santa Barbara County Convention Center parking lot and the Hwy 74 East exit.
