About Eldorado National Forest
El Dorado County is home to the Eldorado National Forest, one of the largest national forests in the United States. The vegetation of this forest consists of chaparral, conifers, firs and subalpine trees, with differences in altitude between 600 and 1200 metres. The Eld Orado National Forest in El Dorados County, California is the second largest forest of its kind in America, after the Sierra Nevada National Park in California. In the late 19th century, Eldorsadown National Forest became the scene of an expedition into the forests of the Sierra, initially led by the legendary Kit Carson.
