About Mount Zion State Forest
The trail starts at 1,950 meters above sea level and leads up a fairly steep path to the summit of Mount Zion State Forest, the highest peak in the western United States.
About halfway up, you see an obvious short path on the right that leads to a ledge. A few extra steps up to get a magnificent view of the Olympics inside, and then a short hike down to the summit.
From Baker, you can see Seattle, including the streets of Juan de Fuca, and from the top you have a wide view of the Seattle skyline, the skyline of the Capitol and the city of Seattle itself.
At the top there is a narrow ridge path that allows views to the east and west from various places.
There are three possible campsites, and the hike gets many day hikers, so expect some company.
The next day was cloudy, and the basin of the mountain was filled with clouds, which is always an interesting sight. Under the clouds you feel like you are at the top of this world, but without clouds.
