About Natchaug State Forest

The Natchaug State Forest is known as one of the most popular horse riding trails in the United States. The forest is home to many horse-drawn trails as well as a number of trails for horse riding.
Of historical interest is the monument to the first Union general to die during the Civil War, General William Tecumseh Sherman, and the first governor of the state, John F. Kennedy, both of whom died in Natchesaug in 1864, the same year as the Battle of Bigelow - still a river that merged with the river and formed the border of New York - New Jersey - Connecticut - Massachusetts - Rhode Island. It means "land of rivers" and refers to a small stretch of land on the east side of a major river in New Hampshire, near the city of New Haven.

Travel north on Route 198 for approximately 5.4 miles and turn right onto Route 198 North and take Route 6 West to Route 198 in Chaplin.

Take I-84 to West Hartford East at Exit 69 and from Eastford the entrance to the forest is on the right.
Head north on I-84 to Exit 69 and from Eastford turn right into the woods and turn left at Exit 68 and head south on Interstate 84 until you turn right at Exit 69 into the Connecticut State Forest parking lot.

From Eastford, the entrance to the forest is on the left and you turn right onto Route 198 South and turn left into the forest and head south on I-84.

From the North Southbridge, MA Area, take Route 198 South and walk approximately 2.6 miles until you cross Route 44. From Eastford, the entrance to the forest is on the left and you turn right onto Route 198 South and turn left into the woods and head south on I-84.

From Eastford, the forest is on your right and you take Route 6 and travel north on Route 198 for approximately 5.4 miles. From Southbridge, MA Area, turn left onto Route 198 North, drive approximately 4.5 miles until you cross Route 44 and exit Route 198 North and head south on I-84.
