About Lake Waramaug State Park
The scenic backdrop of Lake Waramaug in Connecticut can only compete with the spectacular views of New York City, New Jersey and the Great Lakes. The park becomes a mecca for onlookers and photographers when the pristine surface of the lake is reflected in the vibrant autumn leaves.
The land with the park was bought by the state in the 1920s and covers about 95 hectares.
Waramaug was home to the Wyantock Indian chief, who had hunting grounds and a waterfall on the Housatonic River, now called Lover's Leap. He and his followers hibernated in an area now covered by Lake Lillinonah, which was later built by a dam over the Lilliput River and became a summer residence for the tribe.
The camping season starts on Memorial Day weekend and ends on September 30. 77 pitches are available in the wooded areas of the park.
