About Lake Talquin State Park

In 1927, the Jackson Bluff Dam on the Ochlockonee River was built to generate hydropower. The water left behind by the dam formed Talquin Lake, which today offers excellent recreational opportunities. Fishing, Fishing, Boating, Kayaking, Canoeing and Other Lake Leisure Activities.

Nature lovers will enjoy the rolling hills and pine and deciduous forests where they can observe birds, butterflies, squirrels, birds of prey and other wildlife. Visitors can enjoy nature walks, picnics, boat and canoe rides, as well as hiking, cycling, canoeing or kayaking on the lake.

Pavilions are reserved, first come, first served, but please call to reserve a picnic pavilion for a special meeting.

The water that covers the floodplain today is as shallow as an old river, and the many dead stumps that lie around remind us of the rich alluvial forest that once covered the area before the lake was formed. The Florida Power Corporation donated to the state of Florida to build the Lake Talquin State Recreation Area in the early 1950s as part of its "Lake Florida" program.

Lake Talquin State Park houses a picnic pavilion with lake views in the background and can accommodate about 100 people. On both sides of the square, under a separate roof, there are two brick barbecue pits, raised for convenience and easy cooking.

Normally the complex is open from 8 am until sunset, but it is possible to make the facility available for events after work.

Reservations can be made up to two weeks before the desired date, but due to the popularity of the property it is recommended to make reservations as soon as possible. Reservations are made through the Lake Talquin State Park website or by calling (888) 762-5555.
