About Tugaloo State Park
Tugaloo cottages and most campsites are located on wooded peninsulas and offer access to Lake Hartwell, which covers 55,590 hectares and is bidirectional. Tuguoo hut, most of the campsite is located on the wooded peninsula, and some of these huts even have private moorings for overnight guests. Tent campers can choose from a number of primitive campsites located within walking distance of parking lots.
In summer, the lake is a popular destination for boating, canoeing, kayaking and other outdoor activities. Fishing is excellent all year round, and there are many perches in the large mouth, as well as a variety of small and medium sized fish.
Tugaloo comes from a river that flowed freely before the construction of the Hartwell Dam. The Sassafras and Muscadine Trails wind along the riverbank from the northern end to the southern end of TugalOO State Park and down into the lake.
Take Exit 173 onto North Georgia 17 and follow the parking sign to Gerrard Road, turn right and walk the 3.3 miles to the parking lot.
