About Falls of the Ohio State Park

The Ohio State Park Waterfalls are one of Ohio's most popular tourist attractions and are located in the southern part of Columbus, Ohio on the Ohio River. The park features a spectacular interpretation centre overlooking the fossil beds and a beautiful waterfall with a breathtaking view of Lake Erie and the Great Lakes. This is the second largest waterfall of its kind in North America after the Grand Canyon.

Inside you will find a variety of different types of fossils, some of which date back 3.5 million years.

Although fossil collecting is prohibited, the park staff encourage visitors to explore and discover the many different types of fossils found on the seabed. The months of August and October offer a time when the river is at its lowest, and the most common activities are swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, climbing and other outdoor activities in the waterfalls.

The dike trail is currently a grass path on the Ohio River dikes that runs along the waterfront, but it will be built in the next few years as part of a new system of paths. State Park is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. M. and is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please call for times, prices and group information and for further information about the park's activities and events.

The Ohio River Greenway is being built as part of a paved path to be completed in the summer of 2009. Falls of the Ohio State Park is located at the intersection of Interstate 65 and Clark Street in Columbus, Ohio. Take Exit 0 on Interstate65 and follow signs to the main park entrance on the west side of Clarks Street. The total distance from the parking lot to Clark Street and the entrance to State Park is 1.5 miles, according to the park administration.
