About Lake of Three Fires State Park

The Pottawattomi, a loose confederation known as the Fire Nation, once roamed the prairie of southern Iowa. Two other tribes joined them in a loose confederation, the so-called Three Fires. It is believed that the three tribes held large council meetings to pool their forces to protect themselves from invading tribes. According to this great meeting, runners were sent to roam the Indian nations in search of a safe haven from the encroachment of the other two tribes and the threat of fire.

The smoke from the three fires signaled the exact location, and the fires were set high in the hills, so smoke could be seen from all directions.

One such point overlooks the valley, which is now covered by the water of the Three-Fire Lake. When one of the fires was extinguished, the tribes had to leave the area to continue independently. Three fires were lit to connect the three tribes, and when one fire was extinguished, the other two were extinguished.

Lake of Three Fires State Park opened in 1935 and modern cabins offer comfortable rooms for up to four people. Three - Fire Lake is one of the largest lakes in the United States and the second largest in North America.

There are heated and cooled cabins, equipped with refrigerators, microwaves and stoves, as well as hot and cold showers. Tenants must provide their own water, electricity, heating, air conditioning, toiletries, clothing, food, water and other essentials.

You can book cabins for a fee by calling toll-free 1-877-IAPARKs or emailing reservations to the Lake of Three Fires website here.

Two modern campsites by the lake offer 140 pitches, 30 of which have electricity for $30 and you can shower in a nearby tent camp.

There is also a riding stable, which offers 22 campsites, 8 of which have electricity for 8 $and there are also 15 riding areas. Reservations have been made for the campsite, but half of them are still based on the principle of "first come, first served." So make your reservations.

A large picnic area with tables and barbecues is located under trees on the shore, and a playground is nearby. Two open picnic huts can be reserved for a fee at the park office, but there is no electricity, tables or running water in the shelter.

The renovated lodge and beach can be rented for a fee of $5 per day or $10 per week for the whole year. Lake of Three Fires is one of the most popular national parks in the state of California, and the hiking trails provide a great opportunity to experience its beauty all year round. The park has behaved well, with a large number of marked trails and a variety of picnic spots along the paths.
