About Pikes Point State Park
Iowa has a huge variety of outdoor activities all year round, and our parks like Pikes Point State Park in Iowa City offer some truly wonderful outdoor recreation.
This is the beautiful Gull Point State Park, founded in 1933 and one of the oldest state parks in Iowa with a paved road and paved roads. The campsites are well shaded and offer excellent views of Pikes Point and the Iowa City skyline, as well as the river and riverbanks. Gully Point offers a well-rounded selection of outdoor activities, from hiking, biking, fishing, camping, canoeing, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and more. The campsite is the only one on the main trail of the park, a short walk from the parking lot.
Built in 1930 by the Civilian Conservation Corp., Gull Point Lodge is the largest such facility in the state. There are 112 campsites that have been supplied with electricity since the 1960s, and half of them are still first come, first serve based. Reservations for each campsite can be made online or by phone at 1-888-762-4357 or in person at the lodge.
The lodge is available on a reservation basis with the park manager and can accommodate up to 140 people. It has a kitchen and houses a full-service restaurant, a bar and dining room, as well as a laundry room.
Gull Point beach is a great place for young and old to sunbathe and splash in the crystal clear waters. West Okoboji and many other lakes are some of the best fishing spots in Iowa, and the beach at Pikes Point State Park is one of them.
Gull Point is a great place for family picnics, and several open shelters are available or can be reserved for a fee by the park manager. The main network of trails in Gully Point State Park is suitable for walking, with a fine, self-guided interpretative path. Visitors can see a variety of natural features from a variety of viewpoints along the path, on the beach and in the water.
In winter, the area is open for cross-country skiing and the areas of the park are an excellent place to observe roe deer tails and other wildlife.
