Fort Defiance State Park has 16 campsites, but some are not modern and there are no toilets or showers, according to the website.

However, there are eight sites with electricity and each site can pay for a tent. The camping permit is issued for each campsite by self-registration, according to the park's website.

Several trails lead through the hills and forests that make up Fort Defiance, and three of these trails are open to the public. According to its website, the park is only open to hikers, mountain bikers and snowshoe hikers in the winter months.

The rolling farmland surrounding Fort Defiance State Park provides a beautiful backdrop for scenic views of the Ohio River and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Relax in the shade of this beautiful park with picnic table, picnic tables and hot tub.

There is a lodge-style old army outpost and an outdoor picnic area with picnic table, picnic tables, hot tub and hot water fountain. The lush vegetation includes native grasses and flowers such as heather and violet, as well as wild flowers. In spring, the slopes are stained with trillions of blood roots of heather and violet species. On the remote hills, native grasses and flowers, including the endangered prairie clover, thrive.

Open shelters are available free of charge to those who come first and reach them first, but can be rented by reservation with the park manager.
