About Daughters of the American Revolution State Forest

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) donated 1,020 hectares to the Commonwealth as state forest in 1929. Since then, more than 750 hectares have been added, including the Upper and Lower Highland Lakes, with new paths, shady picnic areas, hiking and cycling trails and new waterfalls. The first was discovered in the early 20th century at the site of an old, growing forest on the north side of Highland Lake north of New Haven.

There is also a wheelchair accessible campsite, and the campsites have woodland, picnic areas and picnic tables, as well as access to waterfalls and a picnic area.

In summer, other activities are also possible, such as hiking, canoeing, horse riding (bring your horse) and camping. In winter, skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling, as well as ice skating and tobogganing are popular.

The D.A.R. State Forest is located in the Berkshire foothills of western Massachusetts. On I-91, take exit 19 in Northampton, follow MA Rte. Take Exit 26 in Greenfield and take the exit on the right on MA rte and follow it to Route 1, which is south of Northfield town.

Turn right onto MA Rte and follow it to Route 1, which is south of Northfield town, and turn left onto the road to D.A.R. State Forest.

Take Exit 4 of I-90 and follow signs for 91 North to the entrance to the D.A.R. State Forest, just south of Northfield Town.

Take exit 19 in Northampton, turn right onto MA Rte and follow it to the entrance of the D.A.R. State Forest, south of Northfield Town. On the right is the entrance to the park and on the left is the parking lot of American Revolution State Park.

The entrance to the park is on the right, take MA Rte. To reach Dalton intersection on MARte 8, turn left on MA rte and right on D.A.R. State Forest and American Revolution State Park.
