About Skinner State Park

From April to November the summit is accessible by car, and there are open tours and programs. The park is named after the wealthy industrialist who donated the hotel property to the state in the 1940s. There is an open-air museum, an amphitheater, a visitor center, picnic areas and a picnic area. There are historical performances and special events, as well as a museum dedicated to the history of the park and the history of its visitors and visitors.

In spring and autumn, hawk watching is popular, and hang-gliding is allowed with special permits, as well as bird watching, hiking and fishing.

In June, the masses of flowering mountain gloryberries make for a beautiful spectacle, and autumn leaves can be seen throughout the park. The Friends of the Park organises hikes all year round, but summer is the best time for hiking, bird watching, mountain biking and camping. A path from the summit house leads to a marked path that crosses the Holyoke range.

Access to the summit is difficult for wheelchair users, so please call the park for more information or contact the Friends of the Park at (717) 762-5555.

The mountains formed 200 million years ago when lava flowed and cooled down, turning into a thick layer of sand, clay and dirt on the top of the mountain. The glaciers have left their mark by smoothing out the jagged edges in some places, uncovering rocks on others and leaving sand and clay behind. They leave their traces in the form of craters, exposed rock slabs and other forms of erosion.

Skinner State Park is located in western Massachusetts, and the entrance to the park is on the right in the town of Skinner, about 30 miles south of Boston, Massachusetts.
