About Wendell State Forest
Wendell State Forest is located south of the Millers River and consists of wooded hills and woodlands in eastern North Carolina. Acquired in 1920, the property was severely burned down at the beginning of the 20th century, but its reoccupation is attributed to the activities of a civil protection corps during the 1930s.
Ruggles Pond is the main use area, and the 10 hectare pond offers crystal clear water for swimming and fishing.
A picnic area, ball court and gazebo are nearby, and at the northern end of Wickett Pond there is a small jetty. The Metacomet - Monadnock Trail crosses the timber line and offers trail users a small Adirondack refuge.
