About William Mitchell State Park

William Mitchell State Park is a popular camping, fishing and boating destination. The 334-acre park on Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac offers a unique opportunity to observe a variety of wildlife on the outskirts of Cadillac.

The park was officially opened in 1919 and Mitchell Lakes and Cadillac are known for their fine whaling. Lake Cadillac, which covers 1150 hectares, is a popular attraction, and anglers can expect a variety of fish species as well as a wide variety of animal species. A historic canal connects the two lakes and leads directly into the park, connecting Mitchell Lake with Cadillac Lake, the state's largest lake.

The Heritage Nature Trail is about 2.5 miles long and starts at the park entrance at Mitchell Lake and Cadillac Lake on the west side of the lake. The canal that connects the two lakes at a quarter of a mile is a popular spot for children to fish in and around the parks.

The path is actually a mixture of a variety of plants and animals, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, birds of prey, mammals and reptiles. It is mainly a woodchip trail with bridges and footbridges for an easy walk through the wetlands. The park is located on the west side of Mitchell Lake and Cadillac Lake, just south of the park entrance.
