The park is open year-round for a variety of activities, and three rustic cottages are available along the coast at Point Lighthouse. The historic lighthouse ruins are located on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain, south of Cape Cod, and overlook the Atlantic Ocean.

They offer views of the Hudson River and the New York State Capitol.

The grounds of the old campsite are equipped with modern facilities and along the watercourses there are rare wild flowers. Little Bill Elliot Creek, which runs through the park, kills a variety of fish as well as birds, reptiles, amphibians and birds of prey.

It is known for its speckled brown trout, but it is also known as one of the state's best trout streams for trout fishing. In the bay there are a variety of fish species, such as bluefish, whitefish, brown, trout and trout.

Several well-marked hiking trails allow hikers to share and enjoy the picturesque views of the State Park and its surroundings. They offer a variety of hiking and camping opportunities, as well as a number of vantage points and picnic areas.

The Cheboygan Point Light Area is one of the most popular attractions in the State Park and a popular destination for visitors. Visitors will find the remains and foundations of a once functioning lighthouse.

In 1851, Cheboygan Point Light was built, originally on a pier at Lake Huron, and lasted only a few years due to rough waters and winter ice. It was rebuilt on the coast in 1859 and operated by the United States Lighthouse Service until the 1930s. At that time, the lighthouse and the surrounding land was handed over to the State of Michigan for use as a public park.
