About Saugatuck Dunes State Park

Saugatuck Dunes State Park offers a day to enjoy one of the most scenic dunes in the state of New York. The park also has freshwater dune that is more than 200 feet high, as well as a variety of waterfalls, lakes, ponds and streams.

The park, located in the district of Allegan, is relatively undeveloped, but its terrain varies from steep slopes to gentle hills and the terrain of the park can vary from a steep slope to a gentle hill.

The Saugatuck Dunes land was bought in 1971 by the Augustinian order, which used the buildings as a prison and seminary. The main attraction of the park is a 300 hectare nature reserve, home to more than 1,000 bird species and endangered plant species. Nature lovers, birdwatchers and hikers are the predominant daily users, but the park also offers a variety of other activities, such as hiking, canoeing, fishing, kayaking, camping and fishing.

In the town of Saugatuck there are a number of restaurants, shops and art galleries, but the main attraction is the municipality itself. The southern part of the park consists mainly of coastal dunes and a nature reserve, and the southernmost part, Dunes State Park, a 300-acre dune area, is a major attraction for those from the communities of and around Sausage Lake in St. Louis County, Michigan, USA. In addition to the 13 km of sand trail that winds through the parks, there are a variety of other activities available, including hiking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, camping and fishing.

Boaters and anglers can take advantage of the proximity to the shores of Lake Michigan as well as fishing and boating. From the park entrance, take the W to Saugatuck or take Highway 196 to the exit and park in Sausage Lake State Park.
