About Newaygo State Park

Newaygo State Park is a 99-place rustic campsite perched on a hill overlooking the Muskegon River, a six-mile-long river that was flooded by the Muskego River. The park is especially suitable for campers, anglers and boaters, but for day visitors there are several picnic spots overlooking the reservoir, as well as a picnic area by the lake.

The campsites are surrounded by woods of oak and poplar and are equipped with picnic tables and fires. Each site has a 20 to 30 foot long wooded buffer, and each campsite is bordered by the Newaygo River Trail, one of the park's most popular trails.

The access parking lot holds about 65 vehicles or trailer combinations and relieves the parking lot. Access to the park's protected harbor, the Newaygo River, and riverside campgrounds attracts more than 1.5 million visitors from New York and New Jersey each year. The water level in the reservoir remains low, although it has fallen in recent years due to climate change and other factors.

The primary wild fish are whales - eye straps and folded perches, but at the Muskegon River there is also a large selection of panfish.

For children and adults who want to cool off in the summer heat, two playgrounds have been planned in the park for several years, one for children under 5 years of age and one for children under 12 years of age.

Anglers interested in the Great Lakes can fish for trout and salmon in the Muskegon River, Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. In autumn, the beautiful colors of the season come, enhanced by spectacular views of the Muskego River. Newaygo State Park also offers hiking and cycling tours, with a variety of trails for all ages, from beginners to advanced.

Take US-131 to Exit 125 and walk three miles to W. Beech Street and walk to the N.
