About Silver Lake State Park

Silver Lake State Park is a two-mile state park bordering Lake Michigan on the west side of Silver Lake, Michigan. The area is unique in that it includes dunes and hectares of mature forest. Dune ridges and valleys are mainly made up of wind-blown sand, and the dune area has sometimes been compared to a desert. Bees, trees, scrub, dunes and grasses as well as a variety of other plant and animal species live here.

In 1919, Carrie E. Mears donated 25 hectares of land for park purposes, and the park's boundaries were inaugurated in 1951, and a master plan was officially approved in 1964.

Silver Lake State Park has a large sandy beach and stretches for about 2.6 km along the west side of Lake Michigan. Today it is home to a variety of wildlife including birds, birds of prey, reptiles and amphibians, as well as a number of birds.

One of the park's biggest attractions is its 450 hectares of land, which requires special rules.

In the Silbersee area, the use of an ORV or quad bike for hiking, cycling, skiing, snowshoeing and other leisure activities is a popular activity. Check the rules and regulations for SAIs and ATVs used to participate in these activities, as well as the park's operational and safety regulations.

Silver Lake State Park has special rules to ensure people can safely engage in recreational activities. Only in the state parks are all-terrain vehicles allowed on the road or off the road and only on paths within the park boundaries. The Little Sable Point Lighthouse is a short drive from the campsite and is bordered by Silver Lake, the Great Lakes and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
