There are a number of natural features associated with the Northwestern Ozarks, home to Lake of the Ozark State Park and its adjacent state parks. While the man-made lake itself stands out in the park, attentive hikers will notice the more subtle influences of water on the landscape.

The trails to Lake of the Ozarks State Park take you through dry clearings, heavily eroded hills and picturesque steep slopes that have been unearthed over thousands of years. The lake itself has developed well over the years and offers a great natural diversity. A wide variety of droughts - adapted flora and fauna - can be found here, including the yellow coneflower species found throughout the Missouri Ozark, as well as a number of native species.

The more than 15 known caves were discovered when the chambers were drained by sloping streams, and when they were filled with water, there is evidence that surface water was slowly filtered through underground cracks and joints to filter out the water.

The park's natural wonders are located in the Patterson Hollow Wild Area, considered one of the most scenic areas in the North Carolina State Park system. This 1285 hectare area has beautiful oak forests that provide warm flames of colour in the autumn months. There are also many bird species, reptiles, amphibians, birds of prey and mammals, as well as a variety of wild flowers.

The exhibition of dogwood in spring is particularly impressive, and is populated by a variety of different tree species as well as a large number of birds of prey and reptiles.

Hikers will occasionally see green herons feeding on the fish, and males of all three species are quite colourful in spring. The drain into Patterson Hollow is cut off from the wilderness and only flows during heavy rainfall. In the creek bed there are clear perennial pools, which are excellent for splashing on hot summer days.

Other wild animals in the wild include red-tailed falcons, owls, coyotes, peregrine falcons and other birds of prey such as foxes, raccoons, deer, elks, elks, wolves, bears and wolves.

This quiet, wild area can be a great place for those who want to observe nature and seek peace and a few hours of solitude. This four hectare nature reserve has a spring-fed meadow with a variety of plants and animals, as well as a large pond and waterfalls. It also has an area where constantly cool mineral water seeps through the surface. Due to this infiltration, all living plants and animals must adapt to the saturated soil.

The Ffen community consists of shrubs and herbaceous plants, many of which normally grow several hundred kilometres north, such as grasses, ferns and Ffen.

All public trails in Lake of the Ozarks State Park are marked with entrance signs and marked with colored arrows at intersections. Coloured markings are occasionally used to mark paths where the route is not clear, and participants are advised to pay close attention to these markings, especially where paths only cross over roads.
