About Hawn State Park

Many visitors believe that Hawn State Park is the most beautiful of Miami State Parks. The 4,953-acre park preserves the diversity of Missouri's natural wonders that are a source of admiration for all.

There are many opportunities for visitors who want to enjoy the splendor of nature, as well as a variety of activities.

Overgrown with pine, oak and flowering dogwood, the area is home to a variety of plants, animals and birds. There is also one of the few places in the state where visitors can see a wide variety of rock types below the surface. Pickle Creek has been designated a state nature reserve, and within the park boundaries there is a whisper stream, a small stream and a large stream.

Hawn State Park offers a simple electric campsite and is ideal for visitors who want to explore one of the most scenic areas of the state overlooking Pickle Creek. Enjoy a quiet lunch at the park's picnic area, wrapped in a blanket of pine needles covered with a thick layer of grass and grasses, or on the picnic table in front of a tree.

The service includes reservations, landfill, showers, water and laundry, and access to Hawn State Park for $5 per person per day.

Campsites 1 - 9 are open all year round, but reservations require a minimum stay of two nights, and 10 - 50 are only used for overflow camping from November to March. Campsites 10 and 50 are open from April to October, and Campsites 1 and 9 are open all year round.

Campers must arrive no later than 19: 30 on weekends and no earlier than 8: 00. M. after closing the gates or campers can camp in the parking lot for up to two nights.

To relax after an afternoon picnic, visitors can choose from 30 picnic spots under the pine trees.

Outdoor shelters, which can accommodate about 100 people, can be reserved at the park office for up to 30 days. Accommodation is free and not reserved, but open to the public from 8: 00 to 16: 30 on weekends and from 9: 15 to 17: 45 and 18: 40 on weekdays.

The Whispering Pine Trail was built in the early 1990s as part of the Hawaii State Park Backpacking Trail Project. These efforts led to the creation of hiking trails, cycling and camping trails and a system of paths.

The track consists of two loops; the brew loop is about 4 miles long and the Nordschleife is about 6 miles longer. The trail offers a wide variety of views of the sea, mountains and wind, as well as a variety of animals, including wild boars and wild turkeys.

Moss ferns form moist overhangs between the two streams, and extensive sandstone and granite excavations explore the history of the area and its relationship to the ocean.

Water is not available on this route, but can be obtained at the park office and at the campsites.

Pickle Creek Trail starts at a picnic area near the campground park office. At the entrance to this park, turn left and follow the Whisper Pine Trail until you reach it where there is a parking space.

The entire trail follows Pickle Creek, a beautiful, closed stream, from the picnic area to the campsite at the end of Whisper Pine Trail and then back through the park.

The trail offers a point-to-point hike, although a circular hike is possible by returning to the Whispering Pine Trail, which crosses a cliff on the opposite side of the stream. In its current course, the continuous stream has carved its way through the surrounding sandstone. The result is a sandy course dotted with sandy water, granite-carved boulders and exposed sandstones and rocks.

From May to August, seasonal naturalists regularly offer interpretive programs at weekends. These programs include a walk through the natural history of the park and a hike or picnic in the creek. For more information on interpreting programs, please contact the Park Office at (808) 762-5555 or email [email protected] for more details.
