About Spruce Run Recreation Area
The Spruce Run recreational area in Hunterdon County is one of the most popular recreational areas in the state of New Jersey. The reservoir covers an area of 1.5 million square feet and is the first water supply system to be built and operated by the state. Here flows the Fichte River, a source of drinking water for the entire state, and a reservoir, which bears the name "Fichtenbach Reservoir" after the city's namesake.
The campsites are open to families from 1 April to 31 October, and there are group pitches available. Each place is equipped with a fireplace, picnic tables, picnic table, outdoor shower and toilets and showers, all within walking distance.
Modern toilets and showers are located on both sides of the campsite, and in summer there is a large outdoor shower and toilets.
Barbecuing is prohibited on the seafront promenade, which includes a designated green area, and floating equipment is not allowed in the bathing area. Reservations for walks are accepted, but pets and alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
In the park there are various ball and net games such as football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, golf, football and football.
The launch is mapped with a variety of different types of vehicles such as golf carts, bicycles, trucks, bicycles, boats and even a horse and buggy.
Twenty to nine species of fish are found in the water near the spruce barrels, including trout, pike and hybrid perch, which are stocked by the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife and many other species.
For fisheries regulations, see the NJ Fish and Wildlife Digest for more information on state fish and wildlife regulations and for a full list of state parks in the area.
The Clinton Wildlife Management Area is adjacent to the recreation area and is open to the public.
Spruce barrels offer a variety of waterfowl that can be hunted seasonally, as well as birds of prey.
Maps and information are available at the Fisheries and Wildlife Office on the telephone numbers 908 - 735 - 8240.
Seven picnic areas are set in wooded and open areas overlooking the reservoir, each with tables, charcoal grills and toilets. Picnic areas for groups also offer large groups access to a variety of picnic options as well as picnic tables and chairs. Visitors are allowed to bring their own barbecues, which comply with the applicable fire safety regulations at all times.
Groups of 20 or more must reserve a picnic area at least five days in advance, and on public holidays, such group use is only permitted with the superintendent's permission. The picnic areas in the main parking lot of the park at the northern end of the reservoir can accommodate up to 225 people and offer accommodation for playground equipment. A small group of picnic tables and chairs, available for groups of 10 to 20 people, can be reserved for a fee, but no accommodation is offered for children under 5 years of age.
Reservations for picnic areas are made by the individual parking offices in the main parking lot of the park and in the parking lots of the four picnic areas.
The Highlands Millennium Trail, which will connect the Delaware River with the Hudson River, is one of the most ambitious projects in the history of Spring Run State Park.
This comfortable walk is not barrier-free, but a good option for those who are comfortable with hikes that are not barrier-free. Follow the 31 to 31 N, turn left and continue until you reach the park entrance, which is on the left. The park road is bordered by the Delaware River and Hudson River on the right, the New Jersey Turnpike on the left. And then the Connecticut River to your right.
