About Rancocas State Park

Rancocas Creek is a great place to see nature in one of the lesser known parks in the state of California. The Audubon Society runs a nature center in the park and promotes wildlife programs and events such as the annual RancOCas River Festival.

Part of the park is leased to the Powhatan Indians, and a replica of a 16th century Indian village has been built here.

The annual Powhatan Indian Festival is a festival of music, performances and crafts. The art festival takes place from May to October and is sponsored by the Pow Hatan Indians and is open to all.

The diversity of the landscape provides habitat for numerous bird and animal species, and the New Jersey Audubon Nature Center has nature trails and guided hikes. A network of hiking trails leads hikers through extensive freshwater tidal swamps along the northern arm of Rancocas Creek and through high and low plains with deciduous forests. The New York State Park Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection offers a guided nature trail walk.

Rancocas State Park is accessible from the New Jersey side of the Mount Holly bypass at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 2. Take Mountolly Bypass, follow the sign to the park for about 4 miles, leave the road at a second set of traffic lights and re-enter traffic on the ramp north to Route 3. The nature reserve has a number of self-guided nature trails and a network of paths for hikers and cyclists.
