About Wawayanda State Park
Lake Wawayanda provides a relaxing backdrop for canoeists, boaters and fishermen, while the steep mountains challenge the casual hiker and the more demanding hiker. There are 40 km of marked hiking trails throughout the park, and a 20 km stretch of the Appalachian Trail passes the summit of Wawaysanda Mountain, which offers spectacular views.
Water is not available on some campsites and must be transported from the main office building.
Firewood can be purchased at the park office for a minimum of seven people and up to $5 per person per day or $10 per night.
Visitors can swim in the water from 10 am to 6 pm, swimming hours are from 10 pm to 8 pm and from 9 am to 6 pm. Lifeguards will be deployed throughout the day and evening at the park office and the main building on the beach.
Only Coast Guard-approved life jackets may be worn in the water on the beach, with the exception of life jackets for children under 18 years of age. Swimming and swimming equipment such as flip-flops, kayaks and other floating equipment are not allowed near the swimming area. On the beaches, visitors can use the food concessions where food and beach supplies can be purchased, as well as the changing rooms and toilets.
Pets are not allowed on the beach except for children under 18 years of age and adults with a valid permit from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The boat rental and launch pad is located near the beach picnic area and no sailboats or sailing boards are allowed on the lake. Rowing boats can be rented on Wawayanda Lake, but there are no rental facilities that allow private boats to start. There is no rental in this complex, although sailboats and sailing boards are allowed on the lake.
The rules and regulations for boating on Wawayanda Lake are valid at all times, but gasoline engines are not allowed. A person must have a portable personal swimming device, such as a kayak or canoe, approved by the Coast Guard.
Visitors can also bring their own barbecues, which are subject to the permission of the park manager. Charcoal fires are not permitted and must be limited to metal barbecues provided on site.
The picnic area is located on the south side of Wawayanda Lake, surrounded by the activity-oriented lake, while the north is next to a boathouse or near the boathouse itself.
Wawayanda State Park consists of over 60 miles of well-marked trails, but they are not barrier-free.
Wawayanda Mountain offers excellent views of the surrounding landscape, and the park's varied terrain is followed by a series of narrow, sometimes very rocky paths marked by white flames.
These trails are only intended for hikes along the entire length of Maine and Georgia.
In addition to the Applachian Trail, Wawayanda State Park has more than 40 kilometers of marked trails. The varied terrain and natural conditions offer a variety of opportunities for experienced hikers, beginners and advanced. A brochure for this part of the way to New Jersey is available at the park office. It is operated by the State of Maine Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Department of Maine Parks and Recreation.
Mixed hemlock and deciduous forests offer hikers views of the Appalachian Trail, which is located on the western border of this nature reserve. The nature reserve consists of an ice age spring lake, a small stream and the largest red-shouldered falcon sanctuary in the United States. You will probably see the endangered red-shouldered falcons that have been breeding in this area and in the surrounding northern highlands. The topography in and around the canyon is in high relief, with the surrounding hills and mountain ranges visible.
Wawayanda State Park is home to a large pile of snow, and visitors can choose from several trails, including a scenic walk around Laurel Pond. With designated trails in various areas of the park, a range of winter activities are possible, including snowshoeing, skiing, snowmobiling, tobogganing, mountain biking, cross-country skiing and snowboarding. For more information, please contact your park office for more information on snowmobiling trails and other winter park activities.
