About High Point State Park

The blue line of the Delaware River separates the green ridges of New Jersey from Pennsylvania. In the center of High Point State Park, a state park in upstate New York, there are rolling hills and on the other side a green ridge.

The park was inaugurated in 1923 by its first owner, Susie E. Smith, who donated it to the New York State Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation. High Point offers a variety of activities, from hiking, biking, camping, fishing, canoeing, horseback riding and hiking.

The pleasant landscape was designed by the Olmsted Brothers, one of the leading landscape architects and offices in New York City. The brothers were the sons of the eminent Friedrich Law Ol.

The cabin is located on the eastern shore of Steenykill Lake and features a wood-burning stove, a fireplace and a small kitchen with a stove.

The hut is open from May 15 to October 15 and can accommodate up to two additional persons with prior permission from the superintendent. A fully equipped kitchen with a wood-burning stove, fireplace and a small kitchen and dining area.

Flush toilets are within walking distance of the cabin, as well as a small bathroom with shower and shower cabin and a toilet with flush toilet.

Lake Marcia, which is 20 hectares in size, is cool and refreshing for swimmers and a great place for kayakers. Groups of 25 - 35 people can camp on a group campsite on the west side of the lake, in the area between the stream and the parking lot.

There is a bathhouse and food concessions, but pets are not allowed on the beach and only life jackets approved by the Coast Guard are allowed. The beach is protected by lifeguards, and there is no swimming area, only a swimming pool and a beach volleyball court. Boat equipment such as kayaks, rafts or even floating equipment is not allowed in the swimming areas.

Boating is allowed in the parking lot at the entrance to High Point State Park, but not on the beach.

Boat trips can be made from any of the car parks, car parks or boat launch sites. Please ask your parking office for a starting place and for further information about parking and starting places for boats.

All floating equipment and occupants are Coast Guard approved, but motor boats are only powered by electric motors. Motor boats may only be rented in the parking lot at the entrance to High Point State Park.

There are several picnic areas with barbecue tables throughout the park, and even larger groups can choose from three reservable picnic huts that can accommodate up to 75 people. The shelter 1 has washed-out play equipment and shelter 2 has a playground with play equipment.

Groups of 20 or more must reserve a picnic area at least five days in advance, and on public holidays, such use is only permitted with the superintendent's permission.

Reservations for picnic areas are made by the individual parking lot office at the park's main entrance on the east side of the parking lot, north of Highway 101.

With over 50 miles of hiking trails, High Point State Park offers visitors a variety of year-round hiking opportunities. The Appalachian Trail follows the rocky ridges to the south, which offer views of the surrounding valleys and mountains as well as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This trail is about half of the 18 miles long and takes visitors through a unique and diverse landscape that includes the Appalachian Mountains, Blue Ridge Mountains and Rocky Mountains. Designated multiple trails are located about half a mile to half a mile from the park's main entrance on the east side of Highway 101, and each trail leads into a valley or mountain surrounded by a series of steep, rocky and rocky hills and rugged terrain, such as Mount Pleasant Mountain, Mount Vernon Mountain and Mount Hope Mountain.

The Dryden-Kuser nature reserve includes a characteristic bog, locally called the Cedar Swamp, with a variety of bird species, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds. The Cedar Swamp Trail leads to a 1.5 km loop around the moors and is one of the most popular hiking trails in the park.

The guide describes the area and its surroundings, as well as some of the local flora and fauna, such as the cedar swamp and the Dryden-Kuser nature reserve.

While enjoying the natural beauty of the area, do not forget to leave it undisturbed for future visitors. Cross-country skiers will find peace and artificial snow covering about half of the trails, so you can rent snowshoes or snowmobiles as well as mountain bikes, snowboards or even a ski kart.

In the centre of Lake Marcia, visitors are greeted by a blazing fire. This monument was built in honor of a war veteran by the generosity of Kuser and construction began in 1928 and was completed in 1930.

On top of the 220-foot-high building there is an observer, a bathhouse and a food concession.

Lifeguards protect the beach and water - the water from Lake Marcia, the state's largest lake, is cool and refreshing for swimmers.

Self-guided hiking guides for those who wish to hike the moorland trails are available at the park office. At 1,500 feet above sea level, it is one of the state's tallest state parks and home to endangered species such as tributaries, flower coopers and hawks. Take Route 23 to High Point State Park, south of Boston, about 30 miles north of Worcester.
