About Rivers Bridge State Park
The river bridge, where one of the most famous battles of the US Civil War took place, was the site of fierce resistance that raged there from February 2 to 3, 1865, and shortly thereafter ended the war itself. The outnumbered southerners held on to the bridge, marking the Union Army's only major resistance during the battle, which culminated in the burning of Colombia a few weeks later.
Today, the river bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places and is the only historic site in South Carolina that commemorates the Civil War. The river bridge offers picnics in spring and summer as well as a variety of other outdoor activities.
