About Mission Tejas State Park
Mission Tejas State Park is a state park in San Antonio County, Texas, USA, about 30 miles south of San Marcos. The park was built in 1935 and built on the site of the first Spanish mission to Texas, founded in 1690. It was acquired by the Texas Forest Service in 1976, although it has been open to the public for some time.
The restored Reis family house, built in 1828 and restored in 1974, is also located in the park and is one of the oldest buildings in the area. The house was built between 1826 and 1838 by Joseph Redmund Rice Sr. as a home for his family and served as a residence for immigrant adventurers and residents who traveled with the Texas pioneers.
The park entrance is located at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Interstate 35 in Mission Tejas, Texas. Nearby attractions include the San Antonio Mounds National Monument and the Texas Museum of Natural History. The park is one of the largest national parks in Texas with more than 1,000 acres of land.
