About Spencer Spit State Park
Spencer Spit State Park is one of the most popular spots in the state of New Hampshire, home to the largest sand dunes in the world. The park is located at the sandy tip of a lagoon and is a popular spot for picnicking, hiking, camping, fishing and other activities.
The salt lagoon is surrounded by sand, which speaks for itself, and the park has behaved well. Spencer Spit State Park has a large sand dune that can be reached by car, as well as a small beach with a beach house and picnic area.
Spencer Spit is an example of a sandbar surrounding a salt lagoon that is constantly changing. The spoke was formed over long periods by wind and tides, but eventually the water could be lost or filled with sediment.
At the top of the peak is the original log cabin, which the Spencers built for guests. At the top of this peak is a stone cellar from the old Spencer House, as well as the remains of an old cottage.
Native American tribes stopped in the park at the end of the 19th century to wander along the coast and catch mussels, crabs and fish before moving on. The activities of the Indians continued until 1946, but only for a short time before Spencer Sp State Park was opened in 1946.
At the end of the 19th century Spencer Spit was run by a family called Troxell, but was eventually sold to the Spencers, who lived on the property for over 50 years. The property was purchased by State Parks in 1967 and again by New York State in 1974.
The park has 37 campsites, a landfill and two toilets, but there is no shower connection and the island is treated by Lopez Island Medical Center and there are no showers or connections.
Most campsites in the park are large and private, but there are seven hiking and biking trails, as well as a spot on the Cascadia Marine Trail. Seven resorts have limited privacy and there are also seven hiking / biking trails and two bike paths.
The park offers two group camps, but campers can enter the area in groups of four or more to reserve a place at one of the campsites on the Cascadia Marine Trail or at a private campsite in the park.
Fees vary depending on the size of the group, but the largest can accommodate up to 50 people and has ten walkways and an area with a large lawn. The smaller group camp has room for 20 people, but has to adhere to the three hiking berths, one of which is a refuge with eight berths.
Check-in is at 14: 30, check-out at 13: 00, and quiet times are 22: 00 - 06: 30. A motor-powered power generator is operated from the campsite at Spence Spire State Park from June to October.
Book at least three days before the start of the park day and the length of stay will be extended.
There are 12 moorings along the Cascadia Marine Trail and moorings, docks and floating buoys are available at Spence Spire State Park.
At the top of the spit are picnic tables and a fireplace, the beach area is equipped with six picnic tables and in the kitchen there is a barbecue with four picnic tables. The park offers moorland, but there are no anchorages in Spence Spire State Park, although the park offers a small number of private moorland along the Cascadia Marine Trail and Pacific Crest Trail, as well as on some of its trails.
