About Mill Bluff State Park

Travelers traveling through the Mill Bluff State Park area will be fascinated by the unusually high, steep slopes that rise abruptly from a flat plain. Located on the eastern edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the park offers a variety of hiking, camping, fishing and hiking trails, as well as scenic views. Day tickets are available all year round, but tent accommodations and reservations are available from Memorial Day through Sept.

Reservations are possible from May 20th to September or during low season by calling 608 - 427 - 6692. MillBluff State Park has two family campsites, one partially wooded and one fully wooded, and a small-group campsite with a partially wooded EDA tent.

Each park has a pit toilet and hand-pump shower, and six electricity connections are available.

Locations 7, 10 and 21 are very flat and easily accessible and very easy to reach.

There is no fishing in the pond and there are not always lifeguards available, so do not swim alone at night. The swimming pool at Mill Bluff State Park, the only public pool in the park, is available for public swimming but not for private use.

The nature trail starts at the end of the eastern picnic area and the 4.4 km trail is a self-guided tour. Hikers should not forget to inform themselves about wildlife, trees, wildflowers and geology, especially in the early morning and late afternoon.

Historical markings describe the geological features of the area and part of the route is also accessible to people with disabilities, as well as a number of design signs.

In the mid-1930s, the Work Progress Administration (EPA) built 223 stone steps to a viewing platform at the north end that offers stunning views of the park and surrounding area from Mill Bluff.
