About Roche a Cri State Park

Founded in 1948, the Roche A Cri State Park covers 605 hectares and derives from the French word for crevice. The park has a wooden staircase leading to the main entrance, a small entrance gate and a picnic area with benches and picnic tables.

Indian petroglyphs and pictograms, part of the cultural heritage of Roche - A - Cri State Park. Carter Creek Park offers trout fishing and the park has a picnic area with benches, picnic tables and a small picnic table.

The hill was once a rocky island in Glacial Lake Wisconsin and is now 300 feet above the central sand plain. It is an outlier in the Late Cambrian sandstone and was once located on the rocky "island" of Glacier Lake in Wisconsin.

The rugged, steep cliffs, bordered by flat ridges, made it a landmark for early travelers. It is easily visible and accessible from the platform and is one of the most popular hiking trails in Wisconsin and the nation.

The 442 hectares of land is dominated by the high hills that vultures use as their summer habitat, as well as a large number of birds.

In the eastern part of the reserve, two native prairies have been established and there is a diverse soil layer that includes at least 220 plant species. The Class II trout pass through the area, driven by the wind, as do a large number of wild flowers, grasses and shrubs.

Roche A Cri State Park was founded in 1884 as part of the Roche A CRI National Wildlife Refuge.

The site was originally purchased in 1937 by the State Road Construction Authority for a road surface. It is located on the south side of Roche Road, south of Lake Roche, in the town of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Camping is possible from May to mid-October, and one place is accessible for disabled people and equipped with electricity. Camping is also possible in the summer months from June to October.

Call the parking office for the exact details or visit the landfill behind the office building. Campers can register and set up their accommodation from 10 am to 4 pm on weekdays and from 4 pm to 7 pm on weekends and public holidays in the offices or in the car park.

The central reservation system offers "One Stop Shopping" at reservable locations throughout the Wisconsin Park system. Campers can have their selection confirmed immediately and stay as long as they like. No credit card is required for internet reservations and campers can stay up to 3 days at no extra charge anywhere in the park.

The picnic area can be booked on the steps of the hill, but all accommodations have electricity and large barbecues. Located a few blocks from the park office on the top of the hills, it is a great place for a picnic, and there is electricity, a large barbecue And you can book it for the day.

Roche A CRI offers weekend interpreting programs in the summer, which are conducted by park staff and volunteers. There is also a group vehicle discount, so check with the park office for a schedule for upcoming programs. Reservation forms are available on the DNR website or at Roche A cri.com.

The aim of the interpretative programmes is to give visitors more information about the nature of the park's landscape. The activities are aimed at visitors of all ages and are fun and educational, and special guest lectures are also organized. There are tools that employees can use to achieve this goal, such as the Roche A CRI Interpretative Toolkit, a resource for park staff and volunteers.

The programmes are displayed throughout the park, including at the Roche A CRI Interpretation Centre, the Natural History Museum and the Museum Visitor Centre.
