Founded in 1948, the Roche A Cri State Park covers 605 hectares and derives from the French word for crevice. The park has a wooden staircase leading to the main entrance, a small entrance gate and a picnic area with benches and picnic tables.

The hill was once a rocky island in Glacial Lake Wisconsin and is now 300 feet above the central sand plain. It is an outlier in the Late Cambrian sandstone and was once located on the rocky "island" of Glacier Lake in Wisconsin.

Roche A Cri State Park was founded in 1884 as part of the Roche A CRI National Wildlife Refuge.

The site was originally purchased in 1937 by the State Road Construction Authority for a road surface. It is located on the south side of Roche Road, south of Lake Roche, in the town of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Camping is possible from May to mid-October, and one place is accessible for disabled people and equipped with electricity. Camping is also possible in the summer months from June to October.

If a check or money order does not arrive within seven days, your reservation will be cancelled and will remain unconfirmed until the check or money orders arrive. In some waters, some fish species may be below a health-advisory species limit of one ounce of fish per person per day, which is acceptable. Trout can be caught in Carter Creek, but trout cannot be caught in any of the creeks in the park except in the Carter River, the main creek.

The programmes are displayed throughout the park, including at the Roche A CRI Interpretation Centre, the Natural History Museum and the Museum Visitor Centre.
