About Lake Wissota State Park
The park, northeast of Chippewa Falls, covers more than 2,000 acres in Lake Wisota State Park and attracts hikers, campers, boaters and anglers. The park features secluded campsites and a 285-foot beach, and is one of the state's most popular hiking and camping destinations.
The earliest history of the region dates back to 1836, when the Frenchman Jean Brunet built the region's first sawmill on the Chippewa River. Over the years it has developed into one of the largest sawmills in the world and has long been used as an electricity supply. The lake was created in 1918 when the Wisconsin-Minnesota Power and Light Company built a dam along the Chippendale River.
The park has a permanent fishing dock, specially designed for anglers with disabilities, and is abbreviated by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
More than 200 bird species can be observed in Lake Wissota State Park during the summer and fall months. Geese and other waterfowl often stay at the lake during the spring and autumn migration. Wildlife frequently spotted in and around Lake Eau Claire and Lake WissOTA State Parks include ducks, eagles, geese, turkeys, owls, hawks and more.
Serious birdwatchers can pick up a species checklist from the park office, or serious nature lovers can take a walk in the park office. Backpacks are a great opportunity for children and adults to learn more about the nature and surroundings of Lake Wissota. The 6300 hectare lake offers a variety of leisure activities including fishing, boating, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, camping and fishing. A jetty, a parking lot and trailers provide anglers and boaters with excellent access to the lake.
Directly west of the jetty is a permanently accessible fishing jetty and a few fish cribs in front of it attract the mullets and fish from the Valais, which are so popular with anglers. Lake Wissota State Park has four picnic cabins, two of which can be rented for two people for day use. Perfect for boating, kayaking, canoeing, camping and fishing, the lake is perfect for kayaking and kayaking.

Some campsites are reserved for groups, the other two are reserved for campers, but they are also open to the public.
One of the most beautiful hiking trails in the park is the self-guided Beaver Meadows nature trail. Hikers can enjoy scenic views of Lake St. Croix, Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.
