About Shasta National Forest
The Shasta National Forest, one of the largest national parks in the USA, is located in the Central Valley, north of San Francisco. The difference in altitude is between 14,162 feet to the summit of Shasta, with an average altitude of about 2,500 feet above sea level and a maximum of 3,000 feet.
The Shasta National Forest was founded in 1905 with the proclamation of President Theodore Roosevelt. In 1954, the two forests were combined into an administrative unit and in 1953 a national park with a total area of 1.5 million hectares.
The Shasta - Trinity National Forest is located in the central part of the state of California, about 50 miles north of San Francisco. The forest is divided into seven ranger districts with a total area of 1.5 million hectares.
Although Shasta-Trinity National Forest does not host any of the threatened or endangered plants listed under the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA), it does have activities approved, funded and conducted by the Forest Service and contribute to the list of native plants established under ESA. The prevention philosophy consists of a combination of nature conservation, education, environmental management, environmental protection and management of natural resources.
These sensitive plants are simply those whose viability is important and whose geographical distribution is limited to Shasta - Trinity National Forest. The aim is to maintain a well-distributed population in the landscape, and the plants known as "endemites" are the most vulnerable.
