About Cockaponset State Forest
Cockaponset, named after an Indian chief buried in the Haddam section of Ponset, is the second largest state forest in Connecticut. The development of this area for recreational purposes allows visitors to fully enjoy the attractiveness of the land, the forest, the streams and the forest. We enjoy a variety of activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, horseback riding and much more.
From Middletown area, take Route 9 South (Exit 6) and drive approximately two miles before turning right at the exit. Turn right onto Cedar Lake Road and drive to the entrance of Cockaponset State Forest on the south side of the road. From there, drive south on Cedar Lake Road for about two miles before turning right at the exit.
Turn right onto Cedar Lake Road before turning left at the sign for Pattaconk Lake and driving to the entrance of Cockaponset State Forest on the south side of the road.
Turn right onto Cedar Lake Road before turning left at the sign for Pattaconk Lake and driving to the entrance of Cockaponset State Forest on the south side of the road. Take Route 9 North at Exit 6 and drive approximately two miles to Exit 7, turn left at the exit and turn right onto Cedar Lake Road.
Turn left onto the left exit, then right into the parking lot of Pattaconsk State Park and drive through the park.
