Pilot Knob State Park is one of the most popular U.S. states and a popular tourist destination for visitors from around the country. From the tower, which can be seen from many different angles, visitors can enjoy a variety of views, as well as the Civil Defense building from the 1930s. Pilot Knobs State Park is the largest national park in North America, covering over 1,000 hectares.

As glaciers leveled the prairie in northern and central Iowa, they deposited rocks and soil that formed the hills and valleys we now call Pilot Knob. When pioneers travelled west in covered wagons, they used pilot buttons as signposts that gave the park its name. A picturesque forest surrounds an open-air amphitheatre built in the 1930s by the Civil Defence.

Each campsite has a playground and an open-air amphitheatre with picnic area, picnic tables and picnic benches. Reservations for tents were made in the early days of Pilot Knob State Park, but half of them are still first come, first served after first - first serve.

Two open-air picnic huts are available, which are available on a reservation basis for a fee from Park Rangers. The park has a picnic area with picnic tables, picnic benches and picnic chairs, as well as two outdoor picnic areas. Warmth, electricity and houses offer comfort in winter and pleasant shady places for outdoor recreation in summer.
