About Lacey Keosauqua State Park
Lacey - Keosauqua State Park is located in the Des Moines River Stretch in Van Buren County, just north of the town of Keohegan, Iowa, about 30 miles north-west of Iowa City.
This place was taken by the great migration of Mormons to the West in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
It is now part of the Mormon Pioneer Trail and a river border crossing, and it is a great place to hike, camp, picnic, fish, hike and camp.
When it was inaugurated in 1921, people were looking for a more colorful name for what was originally called Big Bend. For the next five years, the park was called Lacey - Keosauqua, an Indian term that "is a river carrying a floating mass of snow, mud and ice.
After Major John Fletcher Lacey fought in the Civil War, was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 1868 and served as a member of Congress until 1888, the name was changed to "Lacey - Keosauqua" in honor of his father, who fought during the Civil War and had long campaigned for conservation legislation with Teddy Roosevelt. Major Lacey was responsible for the creation of the parking system in Iowa and the first public parking system in Iowa. These cabins have modern facilities and offer visitors a great outdoor experience, but the comfort of a home. They offer beautiful views of the park and a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, camping and fishing.
Lacey - Keosauqua's beautiful, shady campsite has 113 campsites, 45 of which have electricity and about half of which are still based on the First Serve First Coming principle. You can make a reservation for one of the campsites online or at the park office at (518) 888 - 876 - 5555.
You can also reserve a lodge with the park manager at (518) 888-876-5555 or at the Lacey - Keosauqua State Park office. The hut is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm and on weekends and holidays from 10 am to 6 pm.
Three open picnic huts are available and can be reserved for a fee at the park manager's office at (518) 888-876-5555 or at the Lacey-Keosauqua State Park office. This is one of the most beautiful parks in the state, where you can meet, eat and picnic. The picnic area near the eastern entrance to this park is accessible for disabled people. With its picturesque views of Lake Champlain and the Hudson River, scenic paths and scenic views, this is a wonderful place for families, cooks and - on the go.

On the trails you can often see many animal species, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds of prey and other wildlife. The many historic buildings, many of which are over 200 years old, make hiking in the park an exciting and educational experience.
The second weekend of October, the Lacey - Keosauqua State Park hosts the Forest & Crafts Festival.
The festival offers a variety of activities for children and adults as well as a wide range of handicrafts for adults. KeOSauquinas is home to a parade, carnival and other events, including the annual New York State Fair, the New Jersey State Farm Show and more.
