About Fort Kearny State Historical Park

Fort Kearny (SHP Kearney) was built to protect travelers along the Overland Trail, and the storerooms, parade grounds and blacksmith's shop were rebuilt in the early 20th century.

A corridor leads to the warehouse, where more information is available, and the story is revealed.

The Commission's ability to locate construction sites and other features contributed to the development of the park to give visitors a better understanding of the conditions and events that affected contemporary settlements in the American West.

Campers can find what they want, and camping is possible at the four campsites in the park, as well as in a number of other areas. Campers can camp at any of the campsites, with camp beds available on the grounds of Fort Kearney State Park, in addition to the main campsite, or at the visitor center.

Fort Kearny is home to a year-round recreation area that offers modern camping and is located in an attractive 152-hectare area. There are four campgrounds in the park, as well as a number of other campgrounds, such as Fort Kearney Campground, a large campground with picnic area and picnic tables.

Reservations are accepted for all 50 modern campsites, and most of the campsite is shaded.

Reservations are accepted up to one year after the arrival date, but not beyond one year.

Fort Kearny SHPTo get to Fort Kearney State Historical Park, take I-80 to the Minden Exit, then travel 4 miles east on Highway 50A, turn left on Highway 50a, which goes 3 miles west.

To get to Fort Kearney State Historical Park, take I-80 to the Minden Exit, turn left onto Highway 50A, then travel four miles east on Highway 50a and turn right at the intersection of Highway 100A onto Interstate 80.
