About James Baird State Park

James Baird State Park is located on farmland that once belonged to the company that built the Lincoln Memorial. The park has a golf course and a full service restaurant overlooking the golf courses and is open to golfers and the general public.

James Baird donated 590 acres of land to the state of New York to become known as James Baird State Park. In July 2005, he was honoured to host the first national day of remembrance for the victims of the Second World War.

The construction of the park's golf course began in the 1940s and continued without interruption during the Second World War. The golf courses were officially opened in 1948 and the State Park in 1953, the first of its kind.

James Baird State Park has a lot to offer: there are two picnic pavilions that can accommodate up to 300 people without reservation.

There is also a sports complex where visitors can play basketball, softball, tennis and volleyball. The Nature Centre is open on summer weekends and offers nature programmes and rents recreational equipment. Outdoor enthusiasts will find numerous opportunities for hiking in the warmer months and snowshoeing in winter. Near the nature centre there are also playgrounds, an outdoor swimming pool, a children's playground and a sports complex with basketball and tennis courts.
