About Lewis State Forest
In 1933, Lewis County Register Court bought the land to evade taxes, and in 1936 it was declared a state forest. It is located on the eastern edge of Lewis and Clark counties in Washington state, near the border with Idaho.
There is a demonstration line that illustrates the use of a BMP with appropriate technical specifications. There are no known cultural sites in the forest, but there are a number of archaeological sites, such as an old growing pine grove, a rock art museum and a Lewis and Clark Indian museum.
Most of the country is forested, the rest is open land, but other forests are already serving as research sites. In the southwest corner of this forest there is a small wetland and a small stream flows through the forest.
Hunting is the primary recreational use of the forest, but harvesting also includes goals to improve wildlife habitat. This forest is unique in the Tennessee State Forest System with 15 forest areas covered with southern yellow pine species.
