About Flaming Geyser State Park
Flaming Geyser State Park is located in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. The most unique feature of this park are its geysers and methane leaks.
The Green River is popular for rafting and other summer activities, and activities in the park include white water rafting, model flying, etc.
The park is open all year round - for daily use only, but there are some special events, such as flying - in airplanes, model flying and other summer activities. Depending on the time of day, there are three different operating hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., from dusk until dawn. The main entrance to the park is at the entrance to the Green River, south of the park entrance, which is accessible from the parking lot from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. or at dusk or from 9 p.m. to midnight.
The Flaming Geyser State Park has existed on the site since the 1920s and its underlying coal seams provide the gas for the Flamed Geyser and the Blowing Geyer. The surrounding area, including the park, is saturated with the Green River, the largest natural gas source in the United States. The interpretation and representation of the "Flaming Geyer" represents this relationship.
After being run as a private park in the 1960s, it went bankrupt and the state park was saved from being converted into residential buildings and has been operating ever since.
Most services are available within 10 miles of the park and over the past 20 years, over 100,000 people, most of them young families, have been accommodated in campgrounds.
The kitchen can be reserved by phone at 888 - campout (8888 - 226 - 7688) or by e-mail [email protected]. The park has a full-day campsite with kitchen, dining area and picnic area for campers.
There is a self-guided salmon trail from the parking lot to the campsite and a 1000 foot path to a picnic area. The park has a remote controlled flight area with a scenic view of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean.
Open lawns are available for softball and other grass games, and 25 acres of open space are available for equestrian sports.
From October to December, Flame Geyser State Park is a great opportunity to visit wild spawning grounds and gain access to a variety of wildlife habitats. The park is applying for a permit to use the park as a wildlife management area for wild salmon, trout and other species.
